Introduction

I have four grown up children of my own, so I obviously enjoy having children around. I have been childminding since March 2001 and have cared for children from young babies to ten years, forming a close and special bond with all of them.

Sharing the care

Caring for young children involves sharing responsibilities with you, the parents, and I recognise the prime role that you play in your child’s upbringing. You are the most important person in your child’s life, and as far as possible I will continue with your practises, values and wishes.

Settling in

It is important to help your child settle into my house as it will reduce separation anxiety and provide emotional security. Ideally, your child should visit for a couple of short stays at first to help them to get used to being left and to meet the other children in my care. Please feel free to let your child bring something special with them to help them feel at home.

The more information that you can give me about your child, the quicker I can help them settle and form a relationship with them. Please let me know their likes/dislikes, any special needs etc.

I will send photos to your phone or email, so you can see they are settled and having fun, and will send home daily diaries for under two’s, to advise you of nap times, nappy changes etc.

Routines

During a typical day your child will be able to play both alone and with others. Apart from playing with suitable toys, they will also have access to creative activities (painting, sticking, play dough etc), imaginative play (dressing up, cooker etc), construction sets, books and puzzles. Weather permitting, we do try to go out most days, visiting the park, library, feeding ducks or Marsh Farm (I have a season ticket so we are regular visitors!) Obviously we are sometimes tied to playgroup and school times, but during the school holidays we are able to venture further afield.

Where possible I will try to continue with your own routines eg. nap times, feeding times and toilet routines.

Education

Children learn through play and I will ensure that your child is stimulated by various activities  throughout the day.

I have been trained and work to the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage), to support their development and learning, until your child reaches 5 years old, just the same as nurseries and pre schools.

Equal  Opportunity

Your child is an individual and will be given opportunities to develop his/her potential at their own pace.

Safety & Hygiene

You can be assured that I will organise your child’s environment and activities with careful attention to safety and hygiene. I have written a short essay on this subject for a course assignment which you are welcome to read if you want to.

I have also attended a first aid course designed especially for carers of young children, and a safeguarding course. These are both renewed every three years. Myself and all my family have valid CRB/DBS certificates.

I hope that you child will have a happy  time here. Please don’t hesitate to let me know any problems or queries you may have.

Carole
